Studies show that health coaches improve patient outcomes.
The New England Journal of Medicine published a study that showed health coaching face-to-face and remotely (in this case over the phone) lowered patients’ pharmaceutical and medical bills by 3.6% and reduced annual hospital admissions by 10.1%.
Another study showed that when medical assistants were trained in the art of health coaching, diabetic and hypertensive patients improved one or more cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors, including reaching their hemoglobin A1c target and cholesterol level goals.
A study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics showed how health coaching helped overweight veterans lose weight—an average of 5% with mean body mass index decreasing from 30.4 to 28.9.
